Snake FAQ
Common questions about controls, leveling, speed scaling, and scoring.
How do you play Snake?
Steer the snake with arrow keys or WASD. Eat food to grow longer and earn points. Avoid hitting walls or your own body — either ends the game immediately.
What is a good score in Snake?
On the 20×20 grid, clearing 30+ food items is strong play. Score also scales with your level at the time of each collection, so higher levels yield more points per food.
How does leveling up work in Snake?
Every 5 food items consumed advances you one level. Each level increases snake speed by 10% (speed × 0.9^(level-1)). Terminal velocity of 50ms is reached around level 10.
What are the controls for Snake?
Arrow keys or WASD on desktop. Swipe with a minimum 30px threshold on mobile. Press Space to pause and resume the game.
What ends the Snake game?
Colliding with a wall or with any segment of your own body ends the game and shows the Game Over screen immediately.
Can I pause Snake?
Yes — press Space to pause and resume at any point during a game.
Is there a high score?
Yes — the leaderboard is coming very soon, to save your best scores. It is accessible from the toolbar throughout every game session.
Does the snake get faster at higher levels?
Yes — speed follows 150ms × 0.9^(level-1), capped at 50ms terminal velocity. The difficulty curve is geometric, not linear, so each level feels noticeably faster.
